Welcome to the URHP
We provide a comprehensive register of qualified and insured herbal practitioners who offer the public high quality herbal medicine treatment from many traditions.
We remind patients that, no matter which tradition you choose, this is a two-way relationship where you will be given different herbal formulae and other lifestyle advice which require you to give feedback to your practitioner as you work your way back to the cause of your disease. We do not simply substitute herbs for drugs. To quote the sign on the door of Dr Bernard Jenson,
"You may be looking for a good doctor, I am looking for good patients!"

Sources of Holism in Ancient Greek and Indian Medicine
New book published by URHP member Vicki Pitman"The Nature of the Whole, Holism in Ancient Greek and Indian Medicine"
Quote from the foreward by Dr. Dominik Wujastyk and Dr. Kenneth Zysk.
"...Vicki Pitman dives deep into the Greek tradition of Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, to discover whether the roots of holism can be found there. If such roots can be found, then perhpas we can say that Modern Establishment Medicine has lost something important that it once had...Pitman's thesis is distnguished by several features: orginality, scholarly integrity, and accessibility. Perhaps the most important is its historical probity. Pitman grapples with the original texts of Greek and Indian medicine, refusing to simplify, refusing to take anybody' elses word for their meaning. In doing so Pitman has produced a study which is factually trustworthy, serious and true to the traditions in explores."

The Global Natural Healthcare Trust
A small charity doing a big job in South Africa
Web site: www.gnhct.org
Founded by Medical Herbalist Annette Montague-Thomas, the charity treats patients holistically with medical herbs which are both safe and organic.
There are more than 50 million known cases of HIV/AIDS in the world today. 5 million of these are in South Africa [published by South African Treatment Action Campaign 2005]. South Africa has a serious problem.
Our charity has been working since 2001 on the Orange Farm Settlement, situated just outside of Johannesburg. Orange Farm is home to hundreds of thousands of people living in extremely impoverished circumstances, many of whom are also afflicted with the HIV/AIDS virus. Our treatment is given free of charge.

Treating Infants and Elders with herbs
Treating Infants and Elders with herbs - a constitutional perspectivewith Christopher Hedley AHG
organised by Guy Waddell URHP
Saturday 14th February 2009, Regent’s College, London, NW1
Infants and Elders, what do they have in common?
Infants are recently come from the womb and are still wet and defenseless. Their immune systems are not fully formed. Elders have used up their wetness in 'blood, sweat and tears'. They have become dry and brittle and their immune systems are weakening.
In infants the life force is strong but not yet firmly grounded. In elders the life force is dying down and becoming less firmly grounded. Both are frail. Both are close to the spirit and therefore open to insights into their own condition, which is harder for people in the busy, middle times of life.
Infancy and old age are the extreme ends of life, which gives them in practice much in common. They both lack independence, which usually means having to treat the whole family, and deal with their expectations and fears. This can make it difficult to see your patient as an individual and treat them with due respect.
It can be daunting being asked to treat people newly born and people near death. I will take this opportunity to explore what I was taught, that 'there is always something a herbalist can do'.
Christopher Hedley is an experienced and internationally respected herbalist, trained by the National institute of Medical Herbalists. He is a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild. He is a skilled teacher and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and currently teaching at Westminster University. He has taught herbal medicine for 25 years - at all levels from beginners to MSc and in all its aspects from gardening to clinical practice.

ENDOBIOGENIC MEDICINE TRAINING CYCLE 2008-2010
No. 3: Cardiovascular Disorderswith Dr Jean-Claude Lapraz
Friday 10 October to Sunday 12 October 2008
Endobiogeny is an integrative approach to the philosophy and practice of medicine, developed by the French doctors Christian Duraffourd and Jean-Claude Lapraz over a lifetime of intensive medical practice. This approach centres on the role of the endocrine system as the ‘manager’ of the complex relations between the body’s systems, organs, tissues and cells – a role that is of fundamental importance in both the maintenance of health and the development of disease. With more than 30 years’ experience in this field, Duraffourd and Lapraz have pioneered radical new strategies for dealing with a range of disorders, from chronic debilitating afflictions like herpes to life-threatening diseases like cancer. From the outset they employed principally plant-based medicines, because, in Duraffourd’s words, ‘the multiplicity, ubiquity, and polymorphous nature of the agents that disrupt normal physiological processes are perfectly matched by the plurality and polymorphism of the pharmacological activities of medicinal plants’. Because of both this therapeutic modality and the emphasis on detailed observation and physical examination, this approach is often described as ‘clinical phytotherapy’.
This seminar is the third in a series of nine that will comprise a training programme in endobiogenic medicine, running over three years. There will be an examination at the end of each year (for those who wish to take it), with a final exam at the end of the programme; successful candidates will be awarded a certificate by the British Endobiogenic Medicine Society. Full details of the programme, including Syllabus and Terms & Conditions, are available from Phytotherapy Resources at the address below.
The training programme is open to medical herbalists, doctors, osteopaths, and other appropriately qualified practitioners. Students of phytotherapy or medicine (year 2+ only) are also welcome. Please note that this is not a training course in herbal medicine: see ‘Aims’ in the Terms & Conditions.
This third seminar in the programme will focus on the cardiovascular system, looking at the role of the autonomic nervous system in cardiovascular pathology, and the endobiogenic approach to conditions such as arteriosclerosis, arteritis, hypertension and venous insufficiency. It will also include the clinical examination of a patient.
The seminar will be held at the Lecture Theatre, Furnival Building, Middlesex University, 10 Highgate Hill, London N19 5NF, from 1 p.m. on Friday 10 October to 1 p.m. on Sunday 12 October 2008.
Fees for the programme for 2008 (i.e. 3 seminars) are: Practitioners: £450; students: £300. The fees for attendance at individual seminars are:
First two seminars attended in the year (whether consecutive or not): Practitioners: £180 per seminar; students: £120 per seminar.
Third seminar attended: Practitioners: £120; students: £80.
Cheques, made payable to ‘Phytotherapy Resources’, should be sent to Colin Nicholls, Phytotherapy Resources, 38 Westwood Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN4 8TP; tel. 01892 547628/07802 494310; email: cnicholls@phytores.plus.com. Bookings can only be confirmed upon receipt of the full fee. No refunds will be made, though those unable to attend will have access to course materials.
