Therapeutic Massage

Massage releases tension trapped within the muscles, joints and connective tissue, while also having positive psychological benefits. Therapeutic massage has many benefits, from stress relief to improving blood circulation. The benefits of massage are in accordance with the needs and expectations of the client. The same stroke performed in different ways can produce different effects. A single movement preformed vigorously can stimulate the body, while a similar movement performed slowly can promote relaxation. I include Head massage as an integral part of this massage. Some of the movements used in massage are:

Effleurage: helps to increase blood and lymphatic flow to break down congestion in the tissues and toxic deposits.

Percussion: breaks down fat, eliminates toxins, tones the muscles, and generally stimulating the area.

Draining: improves lymphatic flow & elimination of toxins.

Circling: helps eliminate uric acid deposits and other toxins.

Kneading movements: improve circulation and lymphatic flow.  When you arrive, there is a brief consultation to discern which type of massage and body oil will most suit your needs. Different styles and Oils are used in combination, to suit the particular needs of the client, whether your visit is for a medical reason or to ease stress and promote relaxation.

Examples:

  • For stress relief, a relaxing style and oil would be combined, while stimulating moves avoided.
  • For dry skin, a nourishing blend of oils would be used in combination with brisk but light movements to improve the blood circulation which in turn nourishes the skin.

Herbal Oils

As a therapist I enjoy being able to combine both herbs and massage as complementing therapies. This blending of styles comes together perfectly in the use of herbal oils for massage. The herbal oils are infused in the sun using organic herbs from my garden and chosen for their medicinal benefits. These healing properties are beneficial in the treatment of conditions which are commonly seen by massage therapists. Aromatherapy oils chosen for their properties and aromas are also added to further enhance the action of the oil.  The body oil interacts with the body in two ways:

  • ·Through Inhalation (primarily psychological effect)
  • Through absorption into the bloodstream via the skin (primarily physiological effects).
